Central Susquehanna Valley Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America worked with Bucknell University's Religious and Spiritual Life to present this webinar entitled, “Faith in Action: Christians and Gun Violence Prevention.”
Gun violence incidents of firearm suicide, domestic violence, and unintentional shootings by minors leave a wake of survivors and victims. How do Christians respond? Four panelists explore how Christian faith and individual beliefs may catalyze gun violence prevention advocacy work. Panelists include: Peter Murchison, Bucknell Class of 1973 (Religious Society of Friends); the Rev. Carrie Call, PhD (United Church of Christ); Father Michael Rothan (Roman Catholic Church); and the Rev. Don Gaffney (Disciples of Christ). This webinar welcomes you to reflect on your own faith and its role in the work to end gun violence.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a non-partisan organization that works to end gun violence. It also supports the Second Amendment and encourages responsible gun owners interested in ending gun violence to become members. The Central Susquehanna Valley Chapter hopes this video resource will lead to continued explorations of the topic within faith communities across the state. There are many ways to follow up this content, in particular with BeSMART safe firearm storage trainings, frank discussions about domestic violence and firearms, and suicide awareness and prevention work. Congregations may want to consider Rev. Gaffney's book Common Ground: Talking about Gun Violence in America for discussion groups.
